Seeing Double

As I approach the finish of my latest Lake Nipissing Island painting, I`m reminded of a pattern to my art; something else that distinguishes me.

I`m not entirely sure why it began but early on, when I painted 1, I painted 2.

Yes, You Are Seeing Double.

I have 2 paintings of almost everything. 2 canoe scenes, 2 islands, 2 rocks, 2 sunsets, 2 grassy landscapes, 2 chimneys, 2 feathered woman ect… usually done in the same color tones, from the same area, a snapshot from the same day even.

Sometimes it`s because I take photographs of something and when I have 2 photos I like equally, I pick both. At times, I enjoy a painting so much, that I want to do it again. Oftentimes, I learn as I go on the first one and I think I improve on the second.

But that`s subjective.

I always do them back to back and hope I don`t lose interest or motivation in the process. Sometimes it can get stale for me; after a while of painting double. Yet, I continue.

Usually by the time I complete the second one, I finally have the first one out of my system. It`s like, the first could not give me the dose I wanted, or so, what I thought I needed.

Either or, I enjoy Seeing Double. I enjoy repeating what I cherished so much the first time around. I don`t want it to end. I enjoy improving or adding ideas I could not add in the first one because it was already too mapped out to be added by a certain point. I enjoy how gorgeous they look side by side and just as equally stunning on the walls in the same space (or 2 rooms, brought together by art) tying everything perfectly together to my eyes.

What do you think of this perspective?

Do you enjoy Seeing Double?

In Art? On the walls in the same space?
